As a child Wladyslaw Starewicz was facinated by insects. Growing up he got interested in filming them so he bought a camera. The insects though wouldn’t fight under the hot light of his camera – which is what he wanted them to do – and instead in some cases they were dying.
He started working with stop motion animation where he soon realized his natural talent. He did some live action films but mostly he worked with short films of puppets. At the beginning of his career all his films were one-man shows; having him being the writer, director, cameraman, designer and animator.
